Let’s Not Waste Food

*Due to COVID-19, this initiative is currently on pause

Let’s not waste food prevents food wastage while feeding those in need. We pick up food from restaurants at closing time and distribute to low income/refugee families as well as the homeless.

Our Mission

Food is one of our most valuable resources. When we waste food, we waste everything: the water used to grow the food, the soil in which it was grown and all of the energy put into harvesting it and transporting it. Our goal is to ensure this resource is used as efficiently as possible – it's easy to do, with a little bit of planning and care.

We have developed a better understanding of food priorities in our community by working closely with those who need it. We provide freshly cooked, leftover meal items to those who can use them in a timely manner. We want to ensure that people are eating the freshest, healthiest food possible while also doing everything to reduce our environmental impact.

We work closely with the community and individuals who need food to support those in their care.

Reducing food waste through special care

  • We believe that the first aim of feeding should be to provide a meal as soon as needed, and we deliver straight to addresses where we know people are hungry and mealtime is imminent.

Our community offers both food pick-up and delivery services.

  • Our community aims to ensure that no food is wasted and no one goes hungry. We've found that providing ready-to-eat meals (RTEM) is the most immediate way to provide for those who need them the most.

We partner with restaurants and food providers to pick up their cooked food that would otherwise be discarded.

Food pick-up is subject to volunteer and recipient availability.

Our busiest season is Ramadan, and we've been able to save 300 trays of food each year during this holy month!
